Overview

The Taj Mahal is an iconic white marble mausoleum located in the city of Agra, India. It was commissioned by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal and was completed in 1653.

The Taj Mahal is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Mughal architecture and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The structure is built from white marble and features intricate designs and carvings, including verses from the Quran inlaid in calligraphy.

The main dome of the Taj Mahal is surrounded by four smaller domes and is flanked by four towering minarets. The interior of the mausoleum houses the tombs of Mumtaz Mahal and Shah Jahan himself, who was later buried beside his wife after his death.

The Taj Mahal is considered a symbol of love and has become a popular tourist attraction, drawing millions of visitors from around the world every year.
