Overview

Reggia di Caserta is the Italian name for the Royal Palace of Caserta, which is a historic palace located in the city of Caserta, in the Campania region of southern Italy. The palace was commissioned by King Charles VII of Naples in the 18th century and was designed by the architect Luigi Vanvitelli. It was intended to rival the Palace of Versailles in France and became one of the largest and most opulent palaces in Europe. The Reggia di Caserta features 1,200 rooms, including royal apartments, throne rooms, and a grand staircase, and covers an area of about 235,000 square meters. The palace is surrounded by extensive parkland and gardens, which cover an area of about 120 hectares.
