Overview

The Temple of Antas is an ancient Roman temple located in the town of Fluminimaggiore, in the province of Carbonia-Iglesias, Sardinia, Italy. It was built in the 2nd century AD and dedicated to the goddess Sardus Pater, a deity worshiped by the ancient Sardinians. The temple is located on the site of an ancient Nuragic settlement, and it was built using local sandstone and limestone. It consists of a rectangular cella, or sanctuary, surrounded by a portico with columns. The cella contains a niche where the statue of the god would have been placed. The temple was abandoned in the 5th century AD, and it fell into ruin over time. It was rediscovered in the 19th century, and extensive restoration work was carried out in the 20th century to preserve and protect the site. Today, the Temple of Antas is a popular tourist attraction, and visitors can explore the site and learn about its history through guided tours and exhibits. The site is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, and admission fees apply.
