Overview
The Wieliczka Salt Mine is a historic salt mine located in the town of Wieliczka in southern Poland, about 10 kilometers southeast of the city of Krakow. It was one of the world's oldest and largest salt mines, in operation for over 700 years until 2007. The mine features an extensive underground network of tunnels, chambers, and salt sculptures, as well as an underground lake and chapel made entirely of salt. It has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a popular tourist destination, attracting over 1 million visitors annually.
